I'm still here... are you?

I'm sitting here between Church services on Sunday listening to "Lyrical Theology" from www.holycultureradio.com. I haven't bought in any hhh CD's as of late, but I am just curious if anyone out there is reading this blog? If you are, post some comments up in here.

In the meantime, I started a delicious tag thread for hhh, so you can check out some of the web sites I frequent by visiting: http://del.icio.us/greenlantern/rap

Thanks, hopefully someone out there finds this somewhat useful and interesting.

Timothy Brindle - The Great Awakening

One word. Wow.

This is the best Christian Hip-Hop CD I have ever heard. Timothy Brindle delivers with some sick styles. Some may say that the beats on this CD are lacking, but I think they compliment Timothy's style and the lyrics. One big thing to note is that this is definitely not the type of hip-hop you would pop in your CD player with a bunch of non-Christian friends for the sake of listening to some "feel-good" music. This CD is meant to be heard, contemplated, and applied. This CD does what all Christian music SHOULD do; provide glory to the Lord.

Each track takes you through an almost sermon-like adventure, and Timothy has amazing lyrics to do so. One of my biggest pet peeves about ANY CD is when the lyrics are not provided. Timothy has posted the lyrics to almost every song at his web site. Go check them out, and you will see what I am talking about.

TRACK by TRACK:
1-Intro (the great awakening) (n/a)
- Good Intro -
- HOTNESS
2-Glorious
- This song is actually how I found out about Timothy Brindle. This song appeared on the Speckled Goats compilation put out by DJ Maj.
-HOTNESS
3-My New Life
- Great song talking about how Timothy came to know the Lord
-HOTNESS
4-Saved by Grace ft. shai linne
- Amazing. Shai Linne and Timothy trade off rhymes throughout this song, and it is pulled off effortlessly. It isn't your typical, I'll do a verse, you do two verses, this is back and forth flowing.
- HOTNESS
5-The Intercession
- Timothy talks about his former girlfriend, the one who helped lead him to Christ
-HOTNESS
6-Ram's Horn ft. J Silas
- This is one of the most musically powerful songs on the album, and has some of my favorite lyrics.
-"He's victorious, so who's the next challenger/ my pocket Bible's sharper than your excalibur"
- I don't know who J Silas is, but I will have to check into his music...
-HOTNESS
7-It's Obvious
- An apologetics filled song.... good beat, great lyrics.
-HOTNESS
8-Behind Bars ft. muzeOne & shai linne (lyrics n/a)
-This song has my favorite beat on the album, very East Coast style.
-I did a little research on muzeOne, he is half of a group called Redeemed Thought
-Shai Linne is pack on this tune... amazing.
-HOTNESS
9 -Total Depravity
- Powerful lyrics talking about the problems in the world.
-HOTNESS
10 -Hell
- What will happen if you don't trust in God? This explains it quite clearly.
- "You'll be trapped in strife for your afterlife."
-HOTNESS
11-Love Music ft. Gina Campbell
- True love comes from the Father above.
-Another great track.
-HOTNESS
12-Bondservants ft. shai linne
-Cool beat on this track.
-Talks about how we are indebted to Christ
-Shai Linne is back.... keep him coming back.
-HOTNESS
13-Psalm 51
- If I had to pick a weak song on this album, this would be it.
- It still has good lyrics, and a decent beat (uses a guitar loop)
-OKAY
14-sanctification introduction
-Little break in the songs, has a good short message to prepare for the next track
15-Sanctification ft. shai linne
- More Shai Linne, good beat, good lyrics, what more can you ask for?
-HOTNESS
16-Faulty Doctrine
- This is my favorite overall track on the album
- It talks about different doctrines, and how they are not Biblical.
- Some of my favorite lines are:
-"I know you seen these men on TBN/ they scheme your friends and fiend for cream and ends"
-" Please avoid the evil teachings of Benny Hinn/ who claims he'll heal you so there's no need for your medicine/ for his congregation, I'm bound to spit- it's vital/ 'cause they bought into his counterfeit revival!"
-HOTNESS
17-A Letter to my Friends
- It looks like Timothy was part of another group before he came to knew Christ, and this song explains what happened then, and how he had to move on.
- HOTNESS
18-Liberation
- Cool beat, and again, good lyrics.
-HOTNESS

Seriously, this album has just been re-released with some new trackes. GO BUY IT!

Timothy Brindle is the man

I recently bought "The Great Awakening" by Timothy Brindle, and I can't take it out of my CD player. I leave it out, and I have to go dig it out and put it back in. This CD is AMAZING! I will be putting up a review of this CD very soon. Check it out at Lampmode Records.

Because of this CD, I also bought the new Shai Line and Timothy Brindle EP. I will be doing a review on all of these CDs very shortly.

Thanks for reading!

Beatmart Best of the Submissions Vol 2

The most recent CD to my collection is the new Beatmart Mixtape, entitled Best of the Submissions Volume 2. I really liked the first Beatmart Submissions Mixtape, and the concept behind it is amazing. You actually submit your song to the website, and Todd Collins (main producer, the boss, etc) chooses like five songs, and then lets the community vote on them. The winner gets put onto the mix tape. Definately a good way to get into the industry.... Todd Collins has a podcast you can listen to if you're interested at: http://wrgo.libsyn.com .

Anyways, the CD is good, but it took a couple times listening to it for me to appreciate it more. I actually bought the CD off of Ebay, after reading a post on the Beatmart message board, that they would be releasing early on Ebay. Along with the CD I also got a promo CD for Bobby Bishop, some Bobby Bishop rubber bands, and a bunch of Beatmart stickers. Pretty good deal if you ask me, especially considering the CD has 25 tracks.

The first couple times I listened to the CD, I really didn't care for it, but the more I listen, the more I like the CD.

What am I looking for in a CD? It has to have a good beat, good lyrics, and most of all has to give glory and priase to God. I'll talk about my opinions about Christian music in general some other day. I don't have an offical rating system yet, but let's try this track by track:
If I like it , then it's Hotness, otherwise it's Drop This, and if its okay, Its Okay.

Track:
1. Intro - Its okay
2. 5 Fingers - Drop This
3. Something Wonderful - Hotness
-Great song, with great backup vocals from Pee Wee
4. Come On - Its Okay
5. I Don't Care - Hotness
-Like the play on words, good lyrics and a good beat.
6. Get Up, Get Down - Hotness
-I never heard of the frontlynaz before.... I will definately be checking into them now...
7. He's Gonna Work It Out - Hotness
-Awesome lyrics, awesome delivery, good beat...
8. Let It Go - DROP THIS! - Christian Crunk?!? Seriously, I can't stand what is now being called Crunk music.... this is just ridiculous to me, mostly because I can't even understand half of the lyrics...
9. Stick Up - Hotness
-Beat is really catchy, pretty good lyrics...
10. So Amazing - its Okay
11. Hungry - almost Hotness
-I've heard better from Bobby Bishop, but this is a good tune.
12. Get With That - Its Okay
13. Brr! It's Cold - bordering on Hotness
-I'm most interested in this group called Fresh Digress. They have an awesome web site, and I think they show a ton of promise... I'm waiting to hear more tracks from this group.
14. Volumen - Hotness
-Rap en espanol.... pretty cool. Does Bobby Bishop know espanol?
15. Mindset - Drop This
16. Breathe Thru - Its okay
17. Do It Like This - HOTNESS
-Awesome slower beat, good message, good delivery....
18. Who Keeps It - Its Okay
19. Ain't Nothin Like - Drop This
20. Love Jones - Drop This
-This was a contest winner, and I didn't vote for this one for a reason. It shouldn't have made the CD....
21. You Gotta Love It - Its Okay
22. Hands Up - Drop This
- How many songs on the same CD do you put about putting your hands up?
23. Help Me - Hotness
-Another new artist I gotta check out. Never heard of Kaboose before.
24. Light - Drop This
25. Outro - Should I even rate this? It is basically TC given a short speech.

Overall, the CD is definately worth buying at the low price it is being sold at. About the half the songs are good, and I've justified buying CD's for one song, so 10 is really good. Check this one out!!

Coming Soon....

This is going to be my personal site to review some of the new CD's I purchase.

Mostly Holy Hip Hop, but I listen to a variety of different music, so hopefully this will help others determine what they may or may not want to buy.

Thanks,
